Can I hire a worker from a third country for the summer season?

Yes, through the seasonal work call-up process. Your business must submit an application to the Region and receive approval.

Which countries are most common for finding staff?

In tourism, common countries are the Philippines, Bangladesh, Egypt, Pakistan and Georgia, depending on the type of position and requirements (e.g. language, experience, gender).

What documents do I need to legally hire a foreign worker?

Who pays for the tickets, accommodation and documents?

The employer covers the employee's return costs, while accommodation must be provided or secured. For the trip to Greece, an agreement can be made with the employee or the agency.

Can I hire the same employee every year?

Yes, as long as the employee returns to his/her country at the end of the season. The company can re-invite him/her the following year through a new recall application.

Is it mandatory for me to provide housing?

It is not mandatory for everyone, but it becomes necessary when the employee has no other residence in Greece. In the case of a transfer, it is mandatory to declare a residence address.

What happens if I don't register an employee correctly?

If illegal employment is detected, the fine reaches €10,500 per person, while criminal prosecution or suspension of operations may also occur in serious cases.

Can I pay the employee in cash?

No. Payment must be made through a bank account, so that payroll is documented and contributions are declared to EFKA.

What happens if the employee doesn't leave at the end of the season?

The company is not liable if the contract has been terminated and the passenger has been informed of his departure. However, it is good practice to keep a copy of the return ticket.

What applies to workers with asylum or humanitarian permits?

Yes, as long as the card allows work. However, many times, a special contract and updating of information through the employer is required.
